A clever design for a small space

Essentially a 4m x 4m x 4m soft cube, designed with minimised fall zones to suit a small space with high traffic, the Eastland Climbing Structure is a unique custom design by PlayRope and supply partner Berliner, which was formed through the adaptation of the ‘Univers Net Structures’ concept.

Featuring tensioned, flexible beige ropes with steel cores and the highest wear resistance available, in addition to connection points, or ‘Nodes’ in white aluminium, Tensile 316 grade stainless steel, friction-locked mesh is used to create the cube-like surround of this interesting space. All elements combine to form a transparent and 'floating' play solution for a highly visible area, where light-weight transparency was a major focus.

The macramé-like design of the internal climbing space incorporates clover-leaf rings, allowing the ropes to turn across one another to create small square pockets for climbing. Not only does this provide a beautiful form, functionally-speaking it helps reduce the height of fall to less than 600mm, changing the soft fall requirements below the structure. A dream for many landscape architects and developers!
Simply put: a clever design for a small space.
